Tips and Gossip

Call it a garden design sketchbook, call it a blog... this is where you can find news of new products, launches, rants and opinions as well as an archive of all our newsletters.

This winter has been an exciting time for us - but if we thought we could grab a rest post Christmas we were wrong.

We are busy posting out orders from all the bird lovers out there who are keen to provide warm homes and winter food and water for our feathered friends.

Back in the garden, after many months of insisting mushroom compost is added as a soil conditioner I have finally converted my contractor to the joys of the stuff. It's not always the easiest to get hold of (and you may get a few mushrooms growing in your beds) but it works magic on clay and sandy soil alike - improving the structure of the soil and its ability to retain water.

If you are having trouble getting hold of mushroom compost, try looking in your yellow pages for a local mushroom farm and give them a call. They are usually happy to sell spent compost to the public for only a few quid per bag!
